Blue Yodel No. 4 — "Creepy California Blues" (Jimmie Rodgers cover)

I'm going to California where they sleep out every night

I'm going to California where they sleep out every night

I'm leaving you, mama, 'cause you know you don't treat me right

Let me tell you something that you don't know

Let me tell you something, good gal, that you don't know

I'm a do right papa, got a home every place I go

I got the California blues, and I'm sure gonna leave you here

I got the California blues, and I'm sure gonna leave you here

I may ride the blinds, I ain't got no railroad fare

Listen to me, mama, while I sing this lonesome song

Listen to your daddy, while I sing this lonesome song

You got me worried once but I won't be worried long

I Ain't Got You

I've got a roof over my head

I've got boots on my feet

I've got money in my bank account and plenty food to eat

I've got a pickup truck out front

And a horse named Steve out back

I've most everything I need but there's one thing I still lack

I ain't got you

No, I ain't got you...

I've got a hundred loving friends

You know I'm quick on the draw

There's not a card game I can't win

And you know I've played 'em all

I count my blessing everyday

I wrote a list from A to Z

But there's one line that's still blank

Right after T and before V

I ain't got you...

I Wanna Be Single (in the Morning)

When I'm feeling broken-hearted and like love has let me down

I just think of you, my darling, and head back in to town

Where I'll find myself a pretty girl and buy us both a pint

Maybe she can help me pass the time and make it through this night

Once the rooster crows next morning and the day begins to break

Then I find myself a-steepin' in this feeling that I hate

Well, I don't know what to call it, though I'm sure it's got a name

Maybe "jealousy" or something more along the lines of "shame"

I've walked this Earth not 30 years, I should be doin' fine

This heart I got is broken, though, 'cause it can't make up its mind

I wanna be single in the morning, want a girlfriend in the evening, and when nighttime comes, by God, I want a wife...

When I'm feeling awful lonely and there's no use going on

I just grab my favorite guitar and I write myself a song

Pygmalion had his statue, Narcissus had himself

I'd say everyone needs someone to be their someone else

And if music were a maiden then I'm sure she'd have a name

But it wouldn't make a difference, she'd be gorgeous just the same

But tellin' truths and tellin' lies is not what I do best

I'm just a lonely music-maker with a lead weight on his chest

I've walked this Earth not 30 years, I should be doin' fine

This heart I got is broken, though, 'cause it can't make up its mind

I wanna be single in the morning...

Jessica (Two Girls, One Song)

On my search for lovely ladies, two of them found me

Playing chords, accordion and singin' on the street

One of them is from the West Coast the other from the East

Remembering both of their names ain't difficult at least

It's Jessica...

LSD and techno music followed by folk tunes

Seems to be a recipe that makes the ladies swoon

Skinny dippin' in the deep end and checking out tattoos

You can go back home to Brooklyn and I can sing the blues

To Jessica...

Halloween up in Seattle was nothin' short of grand

Angels, zombies, priests, and Palins rockin' to the band

A late-night set out on the sidewalk, I must have made a fan

She shoved a piece of paper with her number in my hand

Call Jessica...

My Second Rodeo

I've had my share of tribulation

I'm not afraid of confrontation

You can call it a loss

When you fall off your hoss

I call that good education

'Cause this bronc called life won't stop buckin'

Take it from someone who should know

All this struggle and strife don't mean nothin'

After all this is my second rodeo

I've messed with angels and demons

I've played it straight, I've tried schemin'

If I just tell a lie

I seem to get by

Might as well keep on a'dreamin'

'Cause this bronc called life won't stop buckin'...

Out in the Country

Out in the country where I'm from

We've got tradition and we've got love

And when the latter leaves you to burn

Then the former has its turn

There's a bridge that you must cross

Either that or throw yourself off

The next town over, they have said

That they're plum sick of getting our down

Well, I've seen this bridge been killing men

For oh so many years

But now I grasp the railing looking down

And the river is kept strong by broken-

hearted lovers' tears

Raining down towards the ground

Ramona Deprivation Syndrome

(music and lyrics by Jon Van Oosbree)

If I don't see Ramona at least once a week

I get so broken-hearted that I can barely speak

My eyes well up, I feel so sad, my world turns upside-down

If I don't see Ramona I always wear a frown

I've got Ramona Deprivation Syndrome

'Cause I haven't seen Ramona for a while

Ramona Deprivation Syndrome

Every time I see Ramona she always makes me smile

So I went to the doctor and I told him about you

He said, "Get over it, buddy. There's only one thing you can do.

Hop on a bus, get in your car and head on in to town

Go on and see Ramona. She'll wipe away that frown."

I've got Ramona Deprivation Syndrome...

Ramona, Ramona, Ramona, Moni Sue...

I've got Ramona Deprivation Syndrome...

This World Ain't Perfect, Darlin'

Many times tonight I will wipe away a tear

As you're sleepin' safe and sound beside me

Many times tonight I wish that you weren't here

But still the hope of findin' love excites

'Cause I don't tell the truth when you're around me

I just run my fingers through your hair

Pray to God my kiss have the power

To keep you here and keep my conscience clear

Many times today I will wish I had a friend

To tell me that you're better off without me

Many times today I will dream about the end

A bullet train to take my from this country

'Cause I got kids with seven different women

I got kids that I don't know their names

Pray to God that they don't ever find me

Mama says that I should do the same

In a perfect world I'd be the man you think you see

But this world ain't perfect, darlin'

No, this world ain't perfect, darlin'

And in a perfect world I'd give you the life you thought you'd live

But this world ain't perfect, darlin'

No, this world ain't perfect, darlin'
